VICTORIA, B.C. – Local sustainable housing developers Urban Thrive and Lapis Homes have teamed up to support the opening of Bishop’s Family Cycles with a family cargo e-bike giveaway, valued at more than $12,000.

“When Ryan [Jabs of Lapis Homes] and I heard that Bishop’s Family Cycles was opening, we knew we wanted to support them and help get more people excited about cargo bikes,” said Julian West of Urban Thrive, who lives car-free and rides a cargo bike with his family of five.

The developers and Bishop’s Family Cycles cooked up a plan to give away a Triobike Cargo Big electric bike, which is one of the best cargo bikes on the market. The Cargo Big can fit two kids, a load of groceries and the family dog, while powering up any hill Victoria can throw at it with ease.

The partners believe cargo bikes are a practical, fun and sustainable alternative to the family car, providing an incredible lifestyle and freedom from expensive car bills.

“Family cycling is revolutionary,” said Rob Kemp, owner of Bishop’s Family Cycles with his wife, Liz. “Once you ride a cargo bike and realize the functionality of it, you open up a world of opportunity. Morning school drop-off is way more fun by cargo bike, the daily grind has become an adventure.”

Urban Thrive and Lapis Homes have also partnered on a car-free townhouse proposal at 2859 Richmond Road (at the junction of Victoria, Oak Bay and Saanich) which, to their knowledge, is the first of its kind in North America. Their target market? Families living a car-free lifestyle, with cargo bikes being a key part of how they get around.

The developers love the idea of helping to promote Bishop’s Family Cycles and are excited to hear from people through this promotion about what would make the car-free lifestyle more appealing and more accessible to them.

People who would like to enter to win the cargo bike – or just want to learn more about family cycling –can visit Bishop’s Family Cycles at 730 Pandora Ave.
